WOW! What a fantastic few months we've had! Firstly we encountered Liverpool Sound City, Cannes Film Festival, some boutique gigs with plenty more to look forward to over the summer!

Starting with a re-cap:

Sound City 2009
Canned Panther presented THREE amazing gigs at the fantastic Studio 2 at Parr Street recording studios. We'd like to thank our friends, particularly Cameron, who made sure the venue provided the perfect back drop for the most amazing performances. Foy Vance, Delta Maid, 15 Storeys and Vijay Kishore were amongst the favourites over the three gigs and we locked out the venue on each occasion! Very triumphant indeed!

Cannes 2009
Our very favourite Jack Roberts was spotted doing pavement a capellas and ad hoc performances all around Cannes when he went over to celebrate the release of Neil Fitzmaurice's (of Phoenix Nights fame)new film Charlie Noades RIP. Laney Murphy has been busy wowing audiences at gigs at the infamous 3345 as well as Korova supporting Wallis Bird. At this gig she performed her a capella of White Flag and had the audience clapping and singing along!

Our last gig saw ad hoc performances from Jack Roberts, Molly Jones and friends. It was also announced that night that Michael Jackson had passed away. Remember where you were people! Let's face it, the man was a genius. You see, you never know what can happen at our events, and as it's free entry, you'd be foolish to miss out!

Well, we’ll start off with our usual line that Canned Panther Towers has been incredibly busy. As We’re sure you’re well aware, there have been several things going on, what with our ever lively monthly parties at 3345, and the massively successful ‘Kop Of The Pops’ event that we helped promote with Barry Sutton (The La’s), with over £4000 going to the Hillsborough Families Support Group.

‘So what have the artists been getting up to?’ We hear you cry! Well, read on!

Laney Murphy & The Hybrids

Laney and the boys have been very busy with studio recording, video recording and masses of live shows. The band had a live video shoot done at their last Canned Panther Presents gig in 3345, Parr Street (the infamous recording studio). They’re going for a full studio video shoot next week, so we’ll keep you posted on the video release!

15 Storeys

Tom, Will, Si and Kev have been busy boys. They’ve confirmed a whole host of new gigs around the North West, including a slot at Liverpool Sound City, supporting Rain and Barry Sutton. This gig will form the closing party of the festival on Sat 23rd May at Parr Street Studio 2. Other guests on the night include Foy Vance, Stephen Langstaff and Kaya. This will be MASSIVE! Get your hangover kits ready!

Jack Roberts

It’s been over a year since Jack Roberts performed at Liverpool Echo Arena for the Number One Project. It’s been a whirlwind of events since then! Having completed successful gigs in Birmingham and all around Liverpool, Jack Roberts is now tearing up the scene with the video that is shooting him to stardom:

Following on from this epic footage, Jack Roberts has written and performed a song for inclusion in a new film being shown at Cannes this May! It’s all a bit hush hush now, but we promise to bring you details hot off the press when we’re allowed to start bragging! It’s a corker, believe us!

If you’re now just gagging to see him live, Jack Roberts is supporting Son Of Dave at Liverpool Barfly in May. You haven’t seen weird until you’ve seen these two on stage! What a night this is destined to be!

Laney and Ian featured on City Talk 105.9 (Liverpool) on Wednesday 28th January. After singing the popular 'Good Riddance' live in the studio, the pair went on to chat about their first gig as The Hybrids at Parr Street the following day. Familiar Looking Strangers
FLS have just come back from their UK tour and are about to take flight for Toronto. FLS have just embarked on a UK tour. Following their breakthrough Carling Academy Liverpool gig where they owned the stage and made every newcomer a fan, the tour ensues:

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of 20 March 1958 when Buddy Holly and the Crickets performed on stage at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. The enthusiastic audience included many future stars of 'merseybeat' inspired by the show.

This show features a host of Liverpool celebrities from music, theatre and television performing the songs of Buddy Holly. Jack Roberts and Andy Steele will perform a version of 'Fool's Paradise.' Sponge – A cleaner type of club night!

Upstairs in Bar 11, Harrison Rd, Halifax

The newest sensation in Halifax club land takes storm this February for the launch of Sponge! The indie club night launches at 9pm 7^th February and will continue on the first Thursday of every month.

So, just another club night? We think not. What's different about Sponge is that it's indie. This is not your run of the mill dance and pop night. There is also a twist: this is an all female set up! All the DJs and promoters are girls!

Tabitha Wrathall (aka Lovefoxette, resident DJ at Sponge) says 'it's important that indie and rock gains some female notoriety. It's always been there, with the likes of Debbie Harry, Patti Smith and Karen O. We're bringing sexy back to the indie groove.'

'Since the demise of the Zoo Bar, Fagins and other rock orientated bars in town, there has been nowhere for the indie kids to hang out,' says Paula Stewart, promoter of Sponge. Paula has vast experience in club promotions and has run infamous nights such as Catfight in Liverpool. Working at Canned Panther has now enabled her to promote in her home town of Halifax.

There has never been a true indie club night in Halifax town centre, and with the rise of bands such as The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys and The Gossip, guitar music is becoming more and more prominent. Sponge is ideal for the perfect atmosphere with the perfect music.

Canned Panther artists to perform at the Number One Project, Liverpool Echo Arena

On Saturday 19th January 08, Canned Panther artists will perform at the Liverpool Echo Arena. This is only the third event ever to be held at the infamous new venue and 10,600 people will watch the performance.

Phil Jones:
Popular Liverpool musician Phil Jones has been around the block a bit! You will know him from such bands as WC Wardrobe's Swinging Clit (1977). Skyfall (1977), Next (1978, and signed to CBS), and Afraid Of Mice (1979-86, signed to Charisma). After twenty years Phil is highly noted for his one-man show. He intertwines a warm wit and wicked sense of humour with his endless repertoire of original songs. He's also been a window dresser, and a telephonist, but his roots are with music. So, from performing in punk bands whilst he was still at school, to appearing on the David Essex show, and to the maturity we see in his musicianship today, Phil Jones is a real delight!

Paul Kappa
'There's nothing else like him in Liverpool.' After seeing Paul Kappa, that's what everyone says! The guitar virtuoso and singer/songwriter plays his heart and soul out in Liverpool and has performed all around the world. He's been a regualr at festivals such as Glastonbury, won the 'Liverpool Echo Arts Award' with his band Cat Scratch Fever, and has gone on to be renowned for his solo work. Hee's known as one of Liverpool's hardest working unsung heroes.

Jack Roberts
Jack Roberts writes songs, performs them, records them, is an animator, an artist, and a general genius! He's performed at Glastonbury and is well known in Liverpool for his time in the band 'The Bingo Brothers.' Achievements include an album through Sony, and his infamous 'Heart Attack' song on a Ricky Haton video. He's a massive favourite in Liverpool and has a strong cult following. Noted for his stage persona and and the contradiction of wit and pain in his lyrics, Jack Roberts is a true story teller you don't want to miss.

Nouveau Django & Christina Malley
Formed in January '07 in the depths of a Liverpool winter, Nouveau Django was borne out of necessity. Where else will you here true rhythm and blues? This band is different from your average guitar band - throw a fiddle into the mix, and you're getting closer to the picture! The band has played festivals all around the country and other claims to fame include violinist Hayden's performance on the soundtrack for the Guy Ritchie film, 'Snatch.' Now, band members Hayden John and Micky Dunne team up with Barfly's Rock Star Wars champion, Christina Malley, to perform at The Number One Project. Simply unforgettable!
